TVB (USA), a Chinese-language channel appearing across the country, visited Cypress College on Tuesday to prepare a news report about Cypress College’s participation in the California Community College’s pilot bachelor’s degree program. When 400-plus members of the Class of 2014 paraded through Gateway Plaza on Friday, May 23, it represented the largest number of participants in a Cypress College graduation ceremony that anyone involved could recollect. New students flood Cypress College: Enrollment rises 13% over last year. Crowds report difficulty getting into their classes.
“It’s getting a little crowded over here,” college spokesman Marc S. Posner joked.

California budget cuts start to sting ; The state’s fiscal crisis affects everything from day-care centers to physicians’ offices

“Regardless of when the budget passes, it will be retroactive back to July 1,” says Marc Posner, spokesman for Cypress College. “So waiting for the state to take action wouldn’t be that prudent.”

Somehow, others add, California must find a way to escape its amplified cycles of boom and bust. Says Mr. Posner of Cypress College: “If we don’t act now, we’re going to be in an even deeper hole.”
