I was born just a couple of months before Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the moon. I clearly was too young to remember, but somehow that event seemed to have a profound impact on my life. I remember fondly pondering the universe on a regular basis as a grade-school kid (everything I knew had limits, so how could space go on forever?). I also followed along as the shuttle program was developed and finally put into operation. I've been hooked ever since. My labor of love SOAR Magazine reflects that during the 15 years I published various versions.
I took this photograph of Space Shuttle Atlantis landing at Edwards Air Force Base to conclude mission STS-117. It was the 51st shuttle landing in California and one of several that I've had the opportunity to cover.
